Ian Church comes home to St. Petersburg, Florida as owner of Sports Life Training after years of professional baseball playing and professional sports training.
Church was a star baseball player at Osceola High School and went on to play baseball for and graduate from Stetson University.
Undrafted out of Stetson University, Ian signed as a free agent with the Lincoln Saltdogs of the Northern League, an Independent professional baseball league. He spent 3 years in the Northern League before having a break out season in the Frontier League with the Kalamazoo Kings belting 31 home runs in the 96 game regular season. He then signed with Los Algodoneros de Guasave of the Mexican Pacific League that winter. This drew the attention of the St. Louis Cardinals organization which purchased his contract that winter and he went on to play high-A ball with them in the Florida State League.
Church has always been dedicated to working on the overall development of baseball players, their athleticism, and their preparation to compete.
The opening of Sports Life Training in Clearwater was a natural transition for Church since he successfully facilitated the opening of three similar, indoor athletic training facilities in New York, South Carolina, and Florida. He was also the General Manager of the Medford Rogues, a collegiate summer wood bat league team in the West Coast League.
Some of Ian’s accolades include:
- Baseball America “Independent Player of the Year 2006”
- Frontier League MVP 2006
- Frontier League All Star Game MVP 2006
- Frontier League Home Run Derby Champion 2006
Ian and the Medford Rogues were also awarded the Medford Chamber of Commerce “Community Spirit Award” during his tenure with the Rogues.
